Artist Statement
Claire Fried in China 2019
I am a figurative artist, working across multiple mediums, using light and colour to create a narrative and capture fleeting moments.
I relish the opportunity to develop new strands of storytelling within my practice - whether this be sculpture or printmaking - alongside my signature oil paintings.
As a student at The Royal Drawing School (for the Online Drawing Development Year 2025), it has been a delight and a privilege to work across so many new themes and concepts, and focus on developing a deeper language of mark making to express my ideas. The body of work created has also sparked the desire for a solo show, a first for me as I delight in collaboration.
As well as my own creative practice, I am also a curator, working with artists to develop the individual threads that run through their work and weave a story around their own collections, which I then provide opportunities for in a professional gallery space.
Whatever I am working on, one thing that's constant is my reference back to the great masters through the centuries. In this I learn from them - and my fellow (RDS students) artists - to work with intuition, clarity and sensitivity.
